Concept/Set Designer Photographer Casting

Ideation

For my ideation, I did a lot of research on vintage burlesque dancers’ headshots and calling cards. Famous burlesque performers such as Gypsy Rose Lee and Noel Toey both caught my attention and embodied what I wanted with my own model. The iconic 1930s cartoon character Betty Boop was also another inspiration of mine. I found that her playful attitude and risqué clothing were something that I also wanted to bring to this campaign.

This project was probably one of my favorites to create. Not only did I get to eat endless bags of Hot Cheetos throughout the entire process but, I think this project really helped grow my photographic abilities. I continuously experimented with a variety of techniques to achieve my final results. One of my main struggles was trying to effectively create a spotlight effect with the resources available to me. As it turns out a projector ended up working perfectly to create the circular light I was going for.

Test Shoots

Behind the Scenes

Here is a sneak peek of one of the many photoshoots that I had with my model. Using what I had, I set up the shoot within one of my classrooms and utilized props and clothing that I thrifted from Goodwill. With the help of my model, I also styled her hair and makeup for the shoot, which even included covering her face in Cheeto dust.

Special thanks to my model Hailey for being a trooper through this very extensive process. I couldn’t have done it without you!
